I came to Meekins when my oldest son was 3 years old. He moved on, but I'm still here 29 years later! Once we found Meekins, I never considered another preschool. I wanted to share in my children's preschool experience, as only a coop allows. No other school came close to Meekins in that respect, both then and now. My sons are 27, 25 and 18 now. They all grew up and had to leave the warm, nurturing environment of Meekins, but I never did! I am truly lucky to work in such a special place.
I graduated from Madison College, now J.M.U., with a BS in Early Childhood Education. I also took several Special Education courses at George Mason and worked for several years in the children's reading room of a Fairfax County Library before I began teaching. Prior to starting a family, I taught both kindergarten and first grade, then stayed home with my children until it was time for preschool.
Since coming to Meekins, I have worked with many different age groups. I taught the 2s class for eight years and enjoyed every minute of it. I love all the preschool ages, but I have to say that the 3s are my favorite group! They are lively, affectionate and utterly delightful to be with! It is a joy to watch them grow and discover. As the months roll by, I watch their personalities emerge and their confidence and independence develop. And I marvel at how much they change in one year. It is so gratifying to watch them develop. I can't think of a better way to spend my days!
